I've kept you waiting too long, it's time to talk ice cream in Maine. It was worth the wait, I promise. Over the next several weeks, months and years I'll highlight my adventures tasting the best ice cream (and gelato) Maine has to offer. Grab your wooden spoon and let's get started...
Head up to the Penobscot Bay area of Maine to find a hidden gem of an ice cream parlor. Pugnuts Ice Cream and Gelato is the name and you will leave very satisfied after your visit.
Italian chocolate chip or Stracciatella ice cream is to die for. It's silky smooth and the crunch from the chocolate chips make the perfect contrast in texture. This is no ordinary chocolate chip ice cream though. It's better than that, much better. I thoroughly enjoyed every scoop.
Ever had a lobster pop? Me neither. Until I went to Pugnuts in Surry, Maine. Chocolate on the outside and vanilla on the inside but in the shape of a Maine lobster claw. Genius. I could have eaten a dozen. Not even kidding.
I can't wait to go back and try more flavors. They are adding new ones soon.
My family nearby in Blue Hill raves about this ice cream and they have a loyal following on social media. Check them out: Pugnuts
