Get Ready, Maine: The First Nor'easter of the Season is Coming this Weekend

Mr. Grinch robbed all of Maine from a white Christmas so Old Man Winter has a lot of work to make things right, and he will. I expect the season's first nor'easter to arrive late Saturday night into Sunday with big impacts to southern Maine first. Let's discuss...

It's a classic setup with high pressure nosing in from the north and keeping things plenty cold enough for an all-snow solution in Maine. The storm track will be key, right off the 40/70 Benchmark near Cape Cod.

The snow map will look a lot like this with Portland down to Boston, Providence, Hartford and part of NYC getting plowable snow. Philadelphia misses out on this one with the "phasing" of the storm happening too late to keep it cold enough for all snow.

For my Maine friends and especially people in southern and along the Mid coast/Down east this will be the first big snowfall in a long time.

Southern New England got hardly any snow last year, but that is about to change in a big way. Boston will get hammered by this storm as they will be right on the northwest side of the low pressure system. That's where the greatest lift in the atmosphere will be.

Here's what the forecast for Bangor, Maine looks like. A little too far away from the center of the low to get a foot, but still decent.

Portland has a good opportunity to see nearly a foot of snow, the most in a very long time. We've only seen around an inch so far this season.

Here's a map showing where the energy will be in the atmosphere, jackpot southern NH and York County.

A fairly classic nor'easter, but not a major by New England standards. In all honesty, this is a baby for us, but it's been so long and there's hardly any snow on the ground so it will feel a lot more than what is typical for a "Maine Winter."

Don't worry, we've got a long way to go before Old Man Winter leaves town for good....

p.s. I had pepperoni pizza bagels for lunch...what did you have? Check it out on my social media
